Assistant Professor of Art Practice, Printmaking– Portland State University : 2023-present

Kat Richards (they/them) is a Portland, OR-based artist. They received their MFA in printmaking at Tyler School of Art, Temple University. Print media is central to Kat’s art practice. They use printmaking, text, sculpture, and painting to explore personal narratives, cultural themes, and archives surrounding queerness.

They have exhibited their work both nationally and internationally in various venues such as The Print Center in Philadelphia, PA, The Momentary in Bentonville, AR, The Charlotte Street Foundation in Kansas City, MO, Commonweal Gallery in Philadelphia, PA, 5-50 Gallery in New York, NY, Ladies Room Gallery in Los Angeles, CA, Anderson Gallery in Richmond, VA, and Mount Analogue Gallery in Seattle, WA. Kat has also been invited as a visiting artist to institutions like University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the University of Kansas, University of the Arts, Parsons School of Design, and Hales Project Gallery. In addition, they have been a part of artist residency programs at Anderson Ranch Art Center, Vermont Studio Center, The Queer Material Labs, and Women’s Studio Workshop.
